What are the benefits of using intimate washes with an acidic pH?
Choosing an intimate wash with an acidic pH can help preserve the balance of the bacterial flora, reduce the risk of irritation or dryness and help reduce the risk of infection.
When should I use pH 3.5 intimate washes?
The pH of the intimate area varies at different stages over the course of one’s life: for instance, when you’re of childbearing age, the vaginal pH is generally more acidic – around 3.5 – in order to ensure there is natural protection against the growth of pathogenic micro-organisms. A wash that has a pH of 3.5 is recommended during this stage of life.
You can assess whether to use a pH 3.5 wash during pregnancy under the guidance of your gynaecologist.
When should I use pH 4.5 intimate washes?
Intimate washes with a pH of 4.5 are formulated to respect the natural balance of the vagina in situations in which the intimate environment has a slightly less acidic pH than pH 3.5 ( standard conditions, recommended as “healthy”). These washes are generally used during puberty, pre-menopause and menopause.
What are Illa sanitary towels made from?
Illa sanitary towels have a 100% cotton topsheet and a super-absorbent polymer (SAP) layer in the core (itself made using microgranules that can soak up your menstrual flow and trap it inside).
What are the advantages of cotton pads versus traditional ones?
Pads with a cotton surface help prevent redness and irritation, allowing air to circulate so that the skin can breathe. Also, cotton’s natural ability to absorb moisture without irritating the skin make it an ideal choice for people with sensitive skin or who suffer from allergic reactions to synthetic materials that are commonly used in other pads.
Where should sanitary towels be disposed of after use?
Used sanitary pads should never be thrown down the toilet, as they can obstruct the pipes and cause issues in drainage systems. In almost all household waster management systems, used sanitary towels should be disposed of in general household waste, or as non-recyclable waste.
Sanitary Towels
Are Illa Sanitary Towels also suitable for light periods?
If your period is light, Illa Daytime Towels or Illa Pantyliners can be used.
How do the SAP microgranules in Illa sanitary towels work against bad odours?
The SAP microgranules trap any flow and odours within their super-absorbent polymers, without leakage.
Can Illa Sanitary Towels also be used for light incontinence?
Yes, they can because the SAP can also absorb small quantities of liquid2.

What’s the difference between Extra Night-time Towels and Night-time Towels?
The difference is in terms of the absorbency, which is indicated on the pack by the number of drops. Extra Night-time Towels have the highest level of absorbency (5 out of 5 drops); Night-time Towels have an absorbency of 4 out of 5.
Are your sanitary towels and pantyliners suitable for postpartum use?
Women are particularly delicate during the postpartum period and have to be extra careful due to the risk of infection. In this case, it is advisable to contact your gynaecologist or obstetrician if you wish to choose Illa sanitary towels.
How often should I change my pad or pantyliner?
For optimum intimate hygiene, it is advisable to change the pad every 4 to 6 hours. You can use them for up to a maximum of 8 hours overnight.
Intimate washes
Can I use Illa intimate washes every day?
Yes – Illa washes are suitable for daily use.
What is the ideal pH for an intimate wash, and why do Illa products have an acidic pH?
Illa intimate washes have a specific pH, as using a wash with an unsuitable pH can upset the balance of the bacterial flora, leading to irritation, dryness, or possible infection. The acidic pH should be maintained for “Intimate health”.
When are antibacterial intimate washes recommended?
You can use antibacterial intimate washes when swimming or at the beach, or at key times, such as when experiencing redness, irritation or bacterial infections. It is always recommended, however, that you seek medical advice before using our products if you have any of these symptoms.
Is Illa Soothing Intimate Wash suitable for all the family?
Yes, our Soothing Intimate Wash is formulated with aloe, chamomile and sage, and has a pH of 4.5 to respect the body’s natural defences and is suitable for frequent use for all the family.
Intimate Wipes

When should I use Illa Intimate Wipes?

The formula has been specifically designed to leave the skin feeling fresh and clean without rinsing and without leaving annoying or sticky residues, helping maintain the natural pH balance of the intimate area.
Do Illa Intimate Wipes maintain the natural pH balance of the intimate area?
